BOTOX® – PAIN RELIEF & COSMETIC
At Mukilteo Smiles, we offer BOTOX® for both pain relief and cosmetic reasons. Many different kinds of healthcare professionals are allowed to deliver BOTOX® to patients, but as specialists in the oral and facial areas, our team at Mukilteo Smiles is especially qualified to perform this treatment.
If you are unhappy with lines or wrinkles in your face, we can use BOTOX® treatments to soften the lines and give you smoother skin. BOTOX® temporarily reduces the amount of muscle activity so that wrinkles are no longer creased and reformed, giving the body a chance to repair the wrinkles. Results will typically last three to four months before another treatment is needed. Some patients like to schedule their BOTOX® treatments in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments we offer, such as in-office teeth whitening.
BOTOX® can also be used to treat patients suffering from Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD, formerly known as TMJ) and other types of facial muscle pain. Your temporomandibular joint and its adjoining muscles are located directly in front of your ears (you can feel them moving when you open your mouth wide). When a patient suffers from TMD, the body responds by causing severe pain in these joints and muscles, sometimes to the point that it’s difficult to eat or even open your mouth. BOTOX® injections that relieve TMD pain can also decrease chronic headaches that are the result of teeth grinding.

HOW DOES BOTOX® TREAT JAW TENSION & TMJ DISORDER?
A combination of factors can cause facial lines. It’s not just about the cellular changes that may occur, or reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals from the sun and the environment.
Repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows cause skin to furrow and fold, gradually resulting in the formation of facial lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick 10-minute treatment that works beneath the surface and temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults – to help them look better.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH TREATMENT.
Some patients receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic report the injections feel like a pinch. You may begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within 24 to 48 hours, with results lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a permanent treatment. If you discontinue treatment the moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines will gradually return.
THE MOST WIDELY RESEARCHED TREATMENT OF ITS KIND.
Only BOTOX® Cosmetic is backed by more than 15 years of clinical studies. It uses a unique manufacturing process, and its potency is measured in units that cannot be compared to any other product. This is why there is no such thing as “generic” BOTOX® Cosmetic.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS:
TREATMENTS ARE NOT ALL “THE SAME.”
Did you know that the FDA has stated BOTOX® Cosmetic is “non-interchangeable”? That means its safety and effectiveness cannot be claimed by another product. The potency – or strength – of BOTOX® Cosmetic is measured in scientifically defined units, and the FDA has concluded that a unit of BOTOX® Cosmetic does not equal a unit of any other product. People who are prescribed a biologic product have a right to know exactly what they are receiving. Be sure to ask which product you’re being prescribed and why.
